Rooms
Eight, named rather than numbered, because that is how the house has always talked about them.
- The corner roomFirst floor, lake and south. The largest, and the only one with two outside walls of glass.
- The green roomFirst floor, lake. Named for a paint colour that was removed in 2009 and put back in 2011.
- The pier roomFirst floor, lake. Directly above the lamp room, and the only room that hears it, faintly.
- The birch roomFirst floor, north. Looks into the birches on the hill side. Coldest in winter, coolest in July.
- The small roomFirst floor, north. Fourteen square metres and a window seat that makes up for it.
- The west atticUnder the roof. A dormer, a slope on two sides, and light until half past ten in June.
- The east atticUnder the roof. The sun arrives in it at half past three in June and wakes you.
- The back atticUnder the roof, facing the hill. The quietest room in the villa by a long way.

In all eight
- Double windows with the inner sash openable, which is how a Finnish house is ventilated in winter.
- Blackout blinds, which exist for June rather than for darkness.
- A wool blanket as well as a duvet, because the heat pump has a bad night about twice a winter.
- No television in any of the eight. There is one in the room off the hall and nobody uses it.
Light
At midsummer it does not get properly dark here. On 21 June the sun is below the horizon for five hours and the sky is never black. In December it is light from a quarter past nine until a quarter past three, and the lake, when it is frozen and under snow, reflects enough of that to make the rooms brighter than the hours suggest.
Arriving
Rooms open at three and are wanted back by eleven. The road in is four kilometres of asphalt and then two hundred metres of gravel, cleared in winter by the man who has cleared it since 2003.
The sauna
Down at the shore, wood fired, lit every evening at five and hot by six. It is for guests and it is included and there is no booking sheet, because there have never been enough people here for one to be needed.
